Junior Musician to Best Selling Author.

How do you get from being a 16-year-old junior musician, who only joined the military to get paid to play music and sports, to being a sought-after speaker, and bestselling author?   If you ask Paul Weston, the route goes through 26 years of military music, a Masters in Conducting and Composition, and via a commission in the Royal Marines.

Paul’s military music life started as a strings and woodwind player in the Band of the HM Royal Marines.  Playing took him to over 50 countries and the rank of Warrant Officer until a commission took him into a few years as a Director of Music and Staff Officer.  Retiring in 2005 as one of Britain’s ultimate military musicians, commanding the Band of HM Royal Marines, Plymouth, Paul immediately moved to Toronto and became a business consultant.

But how is that background relevant in business?  “Two really transferable skills are knowing what you want something to look or sound like before you start, and always asking ‘What If?’”

Most businesses find planning for Plan A hard enough.  Thinking about Plans B & C is often a bridge too far but with Paul’s help businesses realize the essential need for fall back positions and contingency.  This is not news to military leaders, but it is rare enough in commercial circles to secure a stream of keynote engagements across North America.

With heroic stories in sport to inspire him, Paul has written the book “Running In The Rain” to help big thinkers use their time more efficiently.  This has been on the Amazon Bestsellers list since it was released in January 2021.  Paul trains in all weather, and was recently selected to represent Canada in the Elite Masters Division in the Sprint Triathlon World Championships.  This stuff works!
