Success Story- Dr. Matthew Kane- The Power of Our Network
Below you will find four success stories from one member. It is no coincidence that he attends all Chapter events, listens to the podcast avidly and takes the time to connect with other members while he is on the road. Let us celebrate the network working!

Dr. Matthew Kane and McKenzie Robinson met as members of the Vancouver chapter in 2022. After meeting each other a number of times at monthly lunches, a collaboration formed. Matthew a former military intelligence officer and McKenzie the Project Coordinator for the Institute for Veteran Education and Transition (IVET) at UBC proposed a course to UBC on intelligence gathering in modern times. The course would look at how spies operate from a variety of perspectives and in a variety of disciplines. The first iteration of the course began in September of 2023 and was a resounding success with students stating that it was one of their favourite courses in their degree. The course had a mix of military, veteran and civilian students all bringing a unique perspective to the study of intelligence. The Army G2 even made a guest lecturer available and the students loved that session. The success here is that Matthew gained post-secondary teaching experience, giving him credibility, which has already seen him headhunted by other universities for similar courses, and McKenzie brought in a unique course to UBC, all because of their 3V connection.

When Matthew joined 3V in 2022 he was the founder of a startup company, a very challenging position. As a former military intelligence officer who holds a Ph.D. in Psychology where he studied deception detection (you can listen to him on The Treble Victor Podcast) his company was selling an Artificial Intelligence program that detects lies. He has since brought it to market with his first major sale taking place in December 2023. Matthew attributes much of his success over the last year to 3V.

With his first major sale under his belt Matthew has recruited his first full-time sales person. This new recruit is a veteran who he was introduced to by fellow 3V member, Justin Hackstone. Matthew and Justin were connected through 3V as Matthew was looking for advice on selling software, Justin’s expertise.

While on a business trip to Toronto, Matthew listened to downloads of The Treble Victor Podcast. One of the pods that he chose was the chat with Joanna Davies showcasing her knowledge on how to win contracts with the DND. Before he had even landed he had sent a text to Joanna asking for a meeting. They met and that clearly went well because, well, see 2 above (albeit that Canada’s DND is not the major client).
What is the takeaway from this post? Members who attend meetings, listen to the Podcast to learn more about members that they do not know, reach out to one another for advice and take the value on offer from the network are achieving remarkable success while creating jobs for fellow veterans. Check in with your Chapter Lead and the website to see who is in the network that you should be talking to to help out or to get help from. Put simply, when we make the network work, it does!
