Member Profile- Ruari (Rory) Nicholson
Ruari is a proud member of our newly formed Halifax chapter. A "come from away" transplant, Ruari is setting down roots in the Maritimes. Ruari served with the Royal Canadian Navy as a Naval Warfare Officer (aka MARS officer) prior to joining the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) as an intelligence officer in 1996.
In his 30-year career in the military and intelligence community, he has held a variety of operational and leadership positions including deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan and a two-year secondment to the National Security Criminal Operations Branch of the RCMP in Ottawa. He is an alumni of the Leadership in Counter Terrorism (LINCT) association.
Ruari is currently the Regional Director General for Atlantic Region (CSIS), protecting public safety and serving the public interest on our East coast. He continues to be a keen supporter of the Canadian Armed Forces and recognizes that the skills and talents gained in military service have significant application in business and public service organizations.
As a lifelong learner himself, with a Masters in Public Administration from the RMC, Ruari is a strong proponent of employees seeking continued educational and developmental opportunities.
Ruari has been a committed mentor to others in the Service and in post-service situations. He would be a good resource for members seeking to explore opportunities in other government departments and the private sector of the intelligence community.
