Canadian Peacekeeping Veterans Association seeking two Peacekeeping Veterans
On behalf of the Canadian Peacekeeping Veterans Association (CPVA), we are seeking two Peacekeeping Veterans who would be willing to provide a written contribution to the forthcoming publication entitled "PK75, Personal Stories of Canadians in Peacekeeping".
By way of background, the year 2023 will mark two significant peacekeeping milestones - the 75th anniversary of the first United Nations (UN) peacekeeping operation, and the 35th anniversary of the awarding of the Nobel Peace Prize to UN Peacekeepers. To commemorate both significant milestones, CPVA is developing a bilingual publication, in digital format, containing short biographies, photographs, and experiential anecdotes written by ordinary Canadians with Peacekeeping experience.
The publication is scheduled for unveiling in Ottawa on 29 May 2023 - the International Day of UN Peacekeeping.
The primary objective is to educate young people and to enhance public awareness of Canada’s longstanding contribution to world peace and security, made by so many thousands of Canadian Peacekeepers over the past 75 years. The publication will be distributed freely to schools throughout Canada to provide teachers with an additional, online resource for their students to consider Canada’s National Day of Peacekeeping, Veterans Week, Aboriginal Veterans Day, and Remembrance Day. Students will be able to experience what it was like, through the eyes of Canadian Peacekeepers from across Canada – the friends, neighbours, and families of your members.
To assist us in accomplishment of their (CPVA) goal, your help is needed, we request that you identify yourself if you were a Canadian Peacekeeping Veteran, Military, Police, or Civilian, still serving or retired, and that you agree to submit a written contribution to the PK75 Anthology.
Please email us as soon as possible, deadline is Jan 31-2023.
